Introduction
The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established on 14th November 2008 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university under the aegis of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, with Chennai as headquarters. It was set up to promote maritime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like oceanography, maritime history, maritime laws, maritime security, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields, and to achieve excellence in these areas
IMU conducts a Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) every year on All India basis for admissions to its courses for IMU campuses and Affiliated Institutes.
Eligibility
(i) 10+2/equivalent (PCM-Average: Minimum 60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th or 12th Examination).
(ii) Marital status – Unmarried.

IMU conducts a Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) every year on All India basis for admissions to its courses for IMU campuses and Affiliated Institutes.
As per DGS Training Circular 12 of 2020 dated 01.04.2020, all MTIs regulated by DG Shipping are required to admit candidates on the basis of IMU-CET making IMU-CET mandatory for admission to DGS approved Courses
Hence Candidates seeking admission in Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Sc (Nautical Science), and B.E/B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) to any MTI (Govt. or Private- Affiliated to any University) are required to qualify in IMU-CET.
Online Common Entrance Test (CET) Details:
(i) CET for – UG (Under-Graduate) Technical Courses
No. of Questions – 200 multiple choice questions.
Syllabus – English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (12th Grade / Plus 2 level/Intermediate/Equivalent level)
Mandatory for admissions to:
- B.Tech-Marine Engineering
- B.Sc.-Nautical Science
- Diploma in Nautical Science (Both batches – Aug & Feb) **
- B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)
Candidates desirous of admissions to DNS – February batch are required to take this CET (August CET ) compulsorily since there will not be any separate CET for February batch.
