It is our conviction that a ship is only as good as the crew who sail
her and accordingly, Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) was
established with an aim at developing a pool of high calibre seafarers
trained at all levels to work in the increasingly demanding shipping industry.

Both the Post-Sea Facility in Mumbai and the Pre-Sea Training Campus in Lonavala
are committed to providing an outstanding maritime training opportunity to
Indians that is over and above the international mandatory standards.

B. Tech Marine Engineering 

Degree course is a 4-year fully residential course comprising of 8 semesters and includes training on Ship-in-Campus during the seventh semester. On successful completion of the term end examinations conducted by the Indian Maritime University, a Degree Certificate is awarded. Furthermore, successful candidates are entitled for exemption from the Class-IV, Part-A Examination of the Directorate General of Shipping.

 4 years (Pre Sea)Purely Residential, Lectures and Practical/Workshop. Practical Experience in Machine shop, Operation & Maintenance of Marine Power plant systems and Auxiliaries B. Tech Marine Engineering 
  Eligibility Age Not less than 17 years (As on the date of commencement of course)
‣ Not more than 20 years (As on the date of commencement of course)
‣ Unmarried 

Results of Class 12th board exam should be obtained at FIRST ATTEMPT and from a Regular Board only

Only those candidates who have appeared for class XII board examinations from a board that is approved by the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India are eligible.

The following marks must be obtained:
‣  Minimum Aggregate Percentage – 60%
‣  Minimum PCM aggregate – 60%
‣  Minimum score in Physics & Maths individually – 50%
‣  Minimum aggregate for Physics & Maths – 60%
‣  For Andhra Pradesh & Kerala State boards: 11th & 12th aggregate marks will be considered for the above mentioned criteria.

Candidates who have appeared for XII examinations with the results yet to be declared, are also eligible to appear. 

Physically fit and meet the standards laid out by DG Shipping & ESM / SIMS* 

English shall be one of the subjects with minimum marks scored 50% in class X or XII 

6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in the better eye & 6/18 in the other eye. Corrective lenses permitted. No colour-blindness 

Candidate must pass Indian Maritime University, Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) 

Candidate must be in possession of a valid passport prior to joining the course*
